I have to admit I was greatly impressed by this book. I have read John Grover's work for years and I have to say this may just be one of my favorites. Great story and action throughout its pages. If you like horror or are a Grover fan, this is a must for your collection.
I've read Grover's work before so was eager to start his newest novel. At first glance, the premise of old gods fighting twenty-something humans who possess various supernatural powers didn't appeal to me. But Grover's writing has never failed me before so I gave it a shot. Well, I read it all in one sitting. By the last thirty pages, I couldn't read it fast enough to find out how it would end. What sets Grover's book apart from others in this same theme is his talent in humanizing his characters. Each had their own sad pasts, or emotional demons, which made it easy to empathize with them and cheer them on, and feel their pain when they failed. It was more than just a superhero/government against a raging force, it was a story about loners coming together for a common goal, and growing along the way.
